Loras College Athletic Director Bob Quinn
announced today that men’s volleyball will be the college’s 23rd intercollegiate sport. The inaugural season will begin in spring 2015 and the team will compete as an independent with matches in the Athletic and Wellness Center on campus.
“Men’s volleyball is an exciting and fast-paced brand of power volleyball and is quickly growing across the country as a result of the United States’ demonstrated Olympic success. Loras College is excited to make this announcement and the new program will offer us one more opportunity to extend the classroom as part of the top-notched liberal arts education offered here,” said Quinn.
Loras will immediately begin the application process to the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC), a Midwest conference that annually grants the champion an automatic qualifier for the NCAA’s National Championship.
Men’s volleyball is a rapidly growing intercollegiate and interscholastic sport and the newest sponsored NCAA DIII National Championship. Based on student interest, Loras College has sponsored a club men’s volleyball program periodically over the past 10 years and will continue to through the spring of 2014.
Loras College will conduct an immediate search for the first men’s volleyball coach in the history of the institution.
