The Loras College Duhawks were 18th
with 180 points in the December 6, 2012, Learfield Sports Director's Cup standings. The point total reflects championships held prior to the December 6 release, the second release of the 2012-13 academic year.
Loras amassed their points this fall with strong season from their men's and women's soccer teams, as well as their men's cross country squad. The men's cross country team, ranked by the USTFCCCA throughout much of the 2012 season, earned 33 points. By reaching round 16, the women's soccer team (19-5) split the ‘ninth place' points for a total of 64. As a semifinalist in the men's soccer tournament, the Duhawks earned 83 points from their 23-2-1 season record.
Additionally, the volleyball team reached the 2012 Iowa Conference Tournament championship match and finished third in the standings in the regular season, pulling an upset of the #2 seed Coe on the road in the semifinals. The women’s cross country team was third at the IIAC Championships in Cedar Rapids this fall. Senior Abby Potts was the runner-up at the 2012 Iowa Conference Women’s Golf Championship.
Loras is the highest ranked Iowa Conference school in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings at this point in the year and among the top five percent of the over 400 NCAA Division III departments eligible. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports – nine men's and nine women's.
