On May, 31 2012 Ashley Holubar of Solon, a first-year at Loras College was selected as a Lloyd E. Meehan Memorial Scholar and recipient of a $2,500 scholarship for the 2012/2013 school year; a scholarship donated by the Meehan family, alumni of Loras College.
The Lloyd E. Meehan Memorial Scholarship is awarded to select students who have been accepted to Loras College and have either attended high school in or resided in the eastern Iowa counties of Allamakee, Clayton, Dubuque, Fayette, Jackson, Johnson or Winneshiek. To qualify for the award, Holubar had to be involved in the 4-H program for a minimum of four years and have completed a 4-H project for at least three years. She also was required to submit a one page essay explaining what she hopes to achieve in college or her career, and how receiving the scholarship can help her in her endeavor.
Through the generosity of the Meehan family, the Lloyd E. Meehan Memorial Scholarship has been recognizing active 4-H members from eastern Iowa since 1997. Renewable for up to four years for full-time students who maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, the Lloyd E. Meehan Memorial Scholarship continues to support the higher education of students from eastern Iowa.
