by Matthew Garrett

Drawing on his own experiences in the world of sports as a participant, parent, coach, official, and professor of sports studies, Garrett combines memoir, research, and critical investigation to explore a host of issues tied to the principle of human dignity in the sport business industry. These include hazing, the objectification of women, the exploitation of athletes, the culture of online sports commentary, sports violence, the behavior of parents and spectators, and more.
Garrett is the chair of the Division of Physical Education and Sport Studies and coordinator of the Sport Management program at Loras College. His success in the sports industry includes three national championships in sport management case study tournaments, NCAA Division III tournament appearances as a women’s basketball and softball coach, and multiple youth baseball championships. Garrett’s previous books are
Preparing the Successful Coach and
Timeless: Recollections of Family and America’s Pastime. Garret currently lives in Dubuque with his wife and three children.
Loras College will have a public launch reception featuring the author on Friday, February 22
nd, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., in the Athletic & Wellness Center, 2
nd Level Hospitality Suite.
Books will be available for purchase at the signing and at Loras College Bookstore and the author will say a few words and be available to sign copies. All are welcome to stop in anytime during the reception.
