Loras College is pleased to announce a new academic partnership with the Catholic Institute of Higher Studies (ICES) in Vendee, France.
Each year, ICES will nominate up to 20 advanced-level students to enroll at Loras for a special 13-week Political Science program focused on American political ideas and institutions. These students will enroll in Loras College classes and earn credits through ICES effective spring 2014.
The program will provide students opportunities to interact with state and local officials from the Dubuque area, as well as, to travel to Des Moines, Madison, and Chicago for meetings with state and city leaders in those respective areas. The program will not only help students from France learn more about political life in the United States, but will afford students studying politics at Loras learn from their French counterparts as well.
ICES students will stay with host families during their time at Loras. Otherwise, these students will enjoy all the benefits that other Loras College students enjoy, including small and challenging classes, “twist” laptop computers, excellent library resources, and a rich array of spiritual, extracurricular and cultural offerings.
“We are excited to announce this outstanding partnership with ICES in France. There is a natural connection between Loras College and the Catholic Institute of Higher Studies, given our shared commitment to providing a faith-based education. Further, our historic connection to France through founder, Bishop Mathias Loras and the upcoming celebration of our 175th
anniversary makes the timing of this announcement just perfect. Dubuque, Iowa is a place for political science students to study given its historical ability to draw national political figures during election years., All of us at Loras look forward to providing a challenging educational and culturally enjoyable experience for these talented students from France, explained Jim Collins
(’84), Loras College President.
