Loras College Dance Marathon is excited to jump into Miracle Week on campus March 11-15, in an effort to recruit support for the upcoming event on April 20, 2013. The student-run organization raises money to support Children’s Miracle Network and University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. Fundraising activities culminate each year in a 12-hour event in which students continuously perform choreographed, group and individual dances.
The Duhawk team is the highest per capita fundraising program on the collegiate level and the first college with less than 2,000 students to raise more than $100,000.
The stakes are set even higher for Dance Marathon this spring. With a goal of $163,000, the students have pledged $500,000 to the UI Children’s Hospital building campaign. The commitment will come from funds from previous years, $100,000 from this year’s event, and a pledge of $100,000 from the 2014 event. In recognition of the gift, the playroom of the surgical center at the new facility will be named after Loras College Dance Marathon.
“I’ve always believed that Duhawk Dance Marathon is something that the whole Loras campus can be proud of. Now that the hospital is naming a playroom after our organization, Duhawk Dance Marthon is something that can be appreciated by all Loras students past, present, and future. Anyone who enters University of Iowa Children’s Hospital will understand our dedication to the Children’s Miracle Network, and how important it is to us, as Duhawks, that these kids have the best possible experience during the time they need happiness the most,” explained Kevin Baynes
(’14) (Grayslake, Ill.), Dance Marathon Public Relations and Recruitment Co-Chairperson.
Money raised through Loras College Dance Marathon through the years has been used in various programs at the hospital, including: Room of Magic, Beads of Bravery, support for CarePages, CPR Anywhere kits and a vending machine program. Contributions to these programs will continue, in addition to the new pledge.
