To celebrate 175 years of academic leadership, President Jim Collins
(’84), Father William Joensen
and members of the Loras College community will embark on a Pilgrimage to France in May-June 2014. All are invited to join in this exciting trip that will explore the heritage of Bishop Mathias Loras, Loras College’s founder, who came to Dubuque from France, as well as other sites important in world and Catholic history.
The journey will take place May 29-June 8, and include visits to religious heritage sites in the French cities of Lyon, Annecy, Toulouse, Lourdes and Paris. The trip itinerary will include faith-based visits, cultural experiences and history ventures, as well as leisure time at all locations. Father Joensen observes, “The visit to Dubuque by members of Bishop Loras’ family in May 2013 reminds us that the relationship with the land of our spiritual and cultural legacy is alive and well. Now we have the chance to return the favor and explore the country sometimes called the “eldest daughter of the Church.” We travel not simply for historical purposes, but to savor and sip the culture and engage new persons with an openness that is truly ‘catholic’, and of which Bishop Loras would be proud.”
