Loras College Student Union will host a Rock Bowl Run 5k on April 27 at 8 am. All proceeds go toward a ‘Beautify Loras’ event taking place on May 11, 2013, to enhance the aesthetics of the campus. Removal of bad bushes and trees and their replacements, mulch, landscaping plants, and a Duhawk fence sign for the Rock Bowl are some of the projects that will take place with the money raised.
“The pep band and drumline are providing entertainment before the race to pump everyone up. It will definitely be a more challenging run, but we are excited to share this challenge with everyone!” said Student Union director of communications, Hannah Kauffold (’13)
The run is starting in the Rock Bowl on the Loras College campus and will take place in the surrounding area including West Locust Street, Alta Vista, and Loras Parkway. Along the way, runners will not only find challenging hills, but also beautiful views and musical energy. Runners can dress up in a fun theme, and will be entered into a competition for the best dressed group.
“The Rock Bowl Run hopes to be a kick off of a new tradition here on campus in which students, faculty, and staff participate in a community building event (in this case the run) in the hopes of raising money to aesthetically improve the campus for past, current, and future Duhawks, as well as our neighbors around campus. We hope everyone participates so that they feel they had a part in this huge event here on campus!” explained Sergio Perez (’13)
Beautify Loras will begin a celebration of service related to Loras’ 175th
anniversary. In addition to this effort to celebrate the history of Loras in tangible ways, it is intended to inspire other members of the Loras community to serve on behalf of Loras College, with a goal of logging 175,000 hours of service between students, faculty, staff and alumni.
