College-bound high school students and their families are invited to visit Loras College during Iowa Private College Week (IPCW), August 5-9, 2013. The event will include tours and information sessions twice per day, in the mornings and afternoons. Students and their families can learn about Loras’ academic programs, student life and available student financial aid while touring the beautiful Dubuque campus.
According to Sharon Lyons
(’94), director of admissions, “Iowa Private College Week brings high school students and their families to Dubuque from all over and is a great recruiting opportunity to showcase all the great aspects of Loras College. Prospective students get a good idea of what their college experience could include, if they should choose to be a Duhawk. IPCW gives Loras the opportunity to provide a positive experience through meeting present Loras students and staff and taking a tour of campus.”
Loras College has participated in IPCW since its inception and has consistently drawn one of the highest attendances among the 26 participating colleges and universities with more than 400 students and their families attending annually. Loras College President Jim Collins
(’84) serves as the chair of the board of the Iowa Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, the association responsible for this event. He notes that Iowa Private College Week is a great way for Loras and other private colleges to demonstrate opportunities and benefits of attending a private institution such as affordability, graduate rates and job and graduate school placement.
Governor Terry Branstad proclaimed that Iowa Private College Week encourages students and families to “explore their higher education options and make the best possible choice for their college educations.”
