ARCHIVE: Mollie Marti (’87) will speak at Commencement, May 25, 2013

5/7/2013

Loras College will hold its 174th commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at 1:30 p.m., in the Rock Bowl Stadium on the Loras College Campus. A baccalaureate Mass will also be held at 10 a.m., in the Athletic and Wellness Center, located near Cox and 17th Streets.

The Loras College Young Alumni Advisory Board will provide “legacy ribbons” to guests who are Loras College alumni and have a relative graduating.  Alumni can pick up a ribbon to wear the day of the ceremonies, before baccalaureate and commencement at the main entrances of the Athletic and Wellness Center and the Rock Bowl.  This is a new initiative that young alumni and the College look forward to making into a tradition.

Mollie (Weighner) Marti (’87), Director of CommunityResiliencyProject.org, will serve as the Loras Commencement speaker on Saturday, May 25, 2013.

Marti received her bachelor’s degrees in Speech Communications, Spanish, and History in the spring of 1987, then enrolled in graduate school at the University of Iowa’s School of Law and received her J.D. in 1991. After obtaining her law degree, Marti spent three years clerking for U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Max Rosenn.  She went on to practice litigation and operate her own mediation firm.

Later, Marti returned to the University of Iowa from where she received her Ph.D. in Psychology. Upon graduation, she worked as Associate Director of the Iowa Social Science Institute and taught as an Adjunct Professor in the UI Department of Psychology.

Since 1999, Marti has provided performance consulting and education services to elite athletic and business clients, supporting audiences around the world toward values-based living, peak performance, and thriving in business and life. She’s a leading authority on resiliency, servant leadership, and business ethics.

In 2011, after the loss of three teens in her community to suicide, Marti stepped forward to direct CommunityResiliencyProject.org. She hosts the “Resiliency Matters” television show for Mediacom MC22. She also is co-author of The 12 Factors of Business Success: Discover, Develop and Leverage Your Strengths and author of Walking with Justice: Uncommon Lessons from One of Life’s Greatest Mentors. The Loras College Barnes & Noble Bookstore carries the latter for sale.
