Loras College’s student-run and operated radio station, KLCR, went back on air on February 10, 2014 and streamed live at www.loras.edu/klcr
. KLCR General Manager Nick Utter
(’15) (Cross Plains, Wis.) led the reboot and assembled the team that brought radio back to campus after a two year hiatus.
“[I’m looking forward to] the fact that KLCR will actually be on air! It has been a long, time-consuming process and it is difficult not to be there for the final steps, as I am in Spain for the semester, but I can’t wait to hear about KLCR from all my friends back at Loras,” said Utter.
Under the direction of Paul Kohl, Ph.D
., associate professor of communication arts, the KLCR team additionally includes Stephanie Benic
(’16) (Saint Charles, Ill.), Emily Halder
(’15) (Monticello, Iowa), Stephanie LaGrant
(’16) (Delhi, Iowa), Leah Galleger
(’16) (Fairbank, Iowa), Josh Feldhaus
(’16) (Davis Junction, Ill.), Roman Weinberg
(16) (Marshalltown, Iowa), Louisa Pavlik
(’17) (Plainfield, Ill.) and Joshua Kessenich
(’15) (Delhi, Iowa). Prior to the re-launch, the team built an executive board, updated the station’s constitution, diagnosed previous problems and identified solutions to ensure KLCR’s success. Through the help of students, alumni, faculty and staff, KLCR was able to obtain new equipment and the ability to stream online.
“I would like to thank those students and community members who worked so hard to get KLCR back to this point. I look forward to a growing listenership, especially among Loras students, and encourage them to listen to their own community-based radio station, KLCR,” said Dr. Kohl.
In addition to DJs, the station line-up includes everything from a sports show to two talk shows hosted by Weinberg, Pavlik and Kessenich. Students interested in becoming a part of the station should email Stephanie Beneic at email@example.com
