As Loras College prepares to host its 2nd annual Duhawk Day on May 22, 2014, an anonymous donor has stepped forward once again and issued a gift challenge: if the Loras community reaches its goal of 1,075 donors in one day, the donor will make a $15,000 gift.
“With such an enthusiastic and passionate Loras community on campus and abroad, this anonymous gift-challenge offered by a 1985 alum provides us all with the incentive of being part of this 1,075 donor goal,” said Mike Doyle (’91), vice president for institutional advancement. “Duhawks are supporting Duhawks and commemorating the College’s 175th anniversary with alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends with this challenge.”
Duhawk Day is an annual, world-wide celebration to welcome the newest group of alumni, unite Duhawks around the world and focus the day on spirit and support for Loras College. At the inaugural event last year, alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends of the College set out to reach 523 donors in one day. The Loras community surpassed that goal in the early afternoon and nearly doubled its efforts by reaching 940 donors in only 24 hours.
This year, Loras College is celebrating with 16 events
across the country from Orange County, Calif. to Washington, D.C. On campus in Dubuque, Iowa, Mass will be held at 4:00 p.m. in Christ the King Chapel and the Duhawk Day Social will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Loras College Pub, located in the Alumni Campus Center. No matter the location, all are encouraged to get together, wear purple and gold and share photos and video from their celebrations around the world using #DuhawkDay on social media or emailing email@example.com
. Updates on the goal of 1,075 donors will be posted through social media throughout the day.
