Model Ore Stamping Mill Project

This project involved research into 19th century mining practices.  Dubuque's early history centered on lead mining.  The students were asked to find out how ores were mined and processed in the past.  One team focused on a water-powered, wooden, ore-stamping mill.  The model they built is shown below, together with CAD-based and paper-based documentation.  The project was part of Physics 106, Engineering Design, taught by Dr. Hiemcke in the spring of 1997.  The students in the photo are Josh Ehlinger (on the left) and Ben Sayre.
