Schmidt John Schmidt joined the Board of Regents in February 2006. He currently serves as Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Financial officer of Heartland Financial USA, Inc. His most recent change in responsibilities occurred in April 2004, when he assumed the role of Chief Operating Officer.

Prior to that time, in addition to his role at Heartland, John served as President and CEO of Dubuque Bank and Trust, Heartland’s flagship bank. Before joining Dubuque Bank and Trust in 1984, Schmidt was employed by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and Peat Marwick Mitchell in Des Moines. John, a Certified Public Accountant, graduated from the University of Northern Iowa, where he earned his Bachelor Arts degree in 1982.

John and his wife Donna reside in Dubuque, Iowa, with their three children.
