R.C.I.A., or the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, is a program for candidates from the whole Loras Community who seek Baptism, or those of other Christian tradition seeking to be received into the Catholic Church. RCIA includes a program of sponsorship by students for baptismal candidates as well as those looking to join the Catholic Church. Sponsors and Candidates meet to learn about various aspects of the Catholic faith. The team supports candidates throughout their year of preparation and accompanies the candidates at their reception into the church.
"To be able at any moment to sacrifice what we are for what we could become." ~ Charles Dubois
For anyone who has not been baptized in the Christian tradition, Loras provides a program that will give you the opportunity to learn about the Catholic faith and become followers of Jesus Christ. Baptism is one of the seven sacraments and is the initial sacrament in one's faith journey as a follower of Christ. Students are chosen as your sponsor to walk with you through this process and to be with you at your baptism.
For anyone that is Catholic but not yet confirmed Loras provides a program that will give you both small group sharing time as well as service outreach opportunities as you grow in a clearer understanding of your Catholic faith. Students are chosen as your sponsor to walk with you through this process and to stand up with you at your confirmation.
"We are called to be more in all aspects of life, especially that of spiritual. By entering RCIA, although unrealized at the time, one enters a journey leading him or her home; to God’s home. We are all a part of this home although at times travel quite far. The further we are, the greater the emptiness within us. By entering RCIA I began to fill that void and answered my Father’s call to come home."

"Being in RCIA was an amazing experience. I came in a little scared and nervous, but soon I looked forward to our group meeting each Sunday and talking about our faith and beliefs. The members of the class became like a second family to me, and we are still very close today. It was really the first time in my life that I felt God's presence with me, and by going through RCIA I realized just how amazing God's love is."

"When I first came to Loras, I had not been confirmed in the church. I had done everything up until that point (Baptism, Eucharist), but I was feeling somewhat conflicted and wasn’t sure I was ready to take that next step. I ended up attending mass with my roommate every week. After a few times, I realized that I finally found the place where I needed to be spiritually. An announcement was made one week about the RCIA program. I decided to go for it. It was an amazing experience. I met some great people who were going the same questioning process that I was. Everyone in the group was very supportive of each other and helped address our concerns. This was a big step for me that I would probably never have taken had I not heard about the awesome RCIA group. I would definitely advise anyone who is thinking about becoming Catholic to at the very least go and check it out."
