Program Highlights

CAATE Accreditation
Our program is fully accredited through the Commission on the of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).

Placement rates:
It is important that students that graduate from the Athletic Training Education Program find either further educational opportunities or full time positions upon graduation. The faculty and staff at Loras College try to work with students to achieve this goal. During the past five years, we have had a placement rate of over 90%.

Board of Certification (BOC) Exam
Upon graduation, students are eligible to sit for the BOC Exam. This exam stands as the method of ensuring students have gained the necessary skills for entry level positions in athletic training. Our students are well prepared for this exam during their education. Students take comprehensive exams at the end of each semester to track learning and assessment of program classes. Every test students take in each athletic training course has a similar format to the BOC exam so students are familiar and comfortable with the format when they sit for the exam. Students are given an individual plan of study for the exam during their senior so they can best prepare for the exam.  Finally, students are provided with a staff mentor during their senior year.  The mentor will help the students study and prepare for the exam.

Doc Kammer Scholarship
Each fall athletic training students are nominated by Division of Physical Education and Sport Studies faculty and fellow students for the Doc Kammer Scholarship award.  Doc Kammer was a long time athletic trainer for Loras College from 1929-1971.  His family generously set up a scholarship award in his name.  Nominated students compete an and are selected for the award based on involvement in extracurricular activities, involvement in the profession of training and future career goals.  The award is announced during the first weekend of December at a ceremony.

The 2012-2013 winner was senior Ashley Robbins
