Loras College sophomore Makaila Haase
(’16) (Des Moines, Iowa) recently won a contest sponsored by Country Music Television (CMT) and Pepsi, to co-host CMT’s Hot 20 Countdown, and talk with musician Hunter Hayes on his new tour.
“This contest combines all of my passions: country music and television broadcast. I am a Public Relations and Media Studies major at Loras and spend a lot of time reporting for LCTV here on campus. I love broadcasting, but always wanted to incorporate country music into my career. This contest was an opportunity for me to do both things I love and I couldn't pass it up!” she explained.
Haase flew to Atlanta and recorded her CMT debut on October 17, where she met Hunter Hayes and had the chance to host the national broadcast. She also spent time learning from the producers, crew members and talent, to supplement her knowledge of the business.
“This experience was absolutely incredible--truly a dream come true. I am pursuing a career in the country music industry so getting to do what I love and do it for my favorite television show was absolutely surreal!” Haase said. “I sincerely felt a part of the CMT team and I can't thank them enough for this opportunity. Also, I got to be there for my favorite artist's tour. Hunter is an incredible musician, performer, and person--I could not be more proud to represent him, CMT, and Pepsi, and be there to witness this amazing tour.”
The Hot 20 Countdown featuring Makaila Haase aired on CMT on Saturday, October 26 at 10 am, and again on Sunday, October 27 at 10 am.
