Loras College will serve as host to the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities (ACCU) Spring Board Meeting on June 10 - 11, 2013, beginning with a dinner on June 9, on the Loras campus. Loras will host 18 college and university presidents from across the United States during the two-day meeting. The board will convene to review the organization’s goals, objectives and activities for the upcoming fiscal year.
ACCU represents more than 90 percent of accredited Catholic institutions of higher learning in the United States plus approximately two dozen international universities. ACCU’s principal purposes are to help member institutions strengthen their stated Catholic mission and to foster collaboration among Catholic colleges and universities.
Each year the ACCU board of directors selects a different member location to host the board meeting. This year’s participants will enjoy Loras’ campus during their stay. A Mass at the Grotto will take place on Monday, June 10. Rev. Michael Garanzini, S.J., of Loyola University, Chicago, will serve as presider and homilist. Following Mass, the group will take in a few sites in Dubuque with a reception at the National Mississippi River Museum and Aquarium and a dinner on the Miss Dubuque Riverboat.
“As an ACCU board member, I am honored to host my colleagues at Loras and in Dubuque for this year’s spring board meeting. The chance to showcase Loras to these other college and university presidents from all over the nation doesn’t happen often, but timing it alongside the celebration of our 175th
couldn’t be better. It will be a tremendous opportunity to share the great work that the Loras community is accomplishing,” said Loras President Jim Collins
Collins has served on the ACCU Board of Directors since 2009 and was unanimously elected by his peers to serve as treasurer at the annual meeting in Washington, D.C., in February 2013.
