Convocation, scheduled for August 22, 2013 creates a unique opportunity for first-year students to meet Loras College and their peers, professors and staff, who will be their support over the next four years. Loras attracts students from across the world to be a part of our Catholic liberal arts tradition, including a group of incoming students from Arizona whose lives were impacted by Regent Mike Valder
Founded in 2004, Aguila Youth Leadership Institute is a non-profit organization that provides a unique college access program for Latino/Latina youth that provides a web of support through consistency and powerful messaging, according to its facebook page.
The program engages students as high school freshman and remains with them through their senior year, providing monthly seminars and support to teach and grow qualities that promote civic engagement, leadership, self-esteem and academic success, among others. Students are also supported through the Aguila Alumni Association, where they have opportunities to continue their relationships with each other and Aguila staff, as well as network with other Aguila alumni and community leaders.
Valder is passionately involved with the Aguila program and encourages Aguila students to consider Loras as they make their college decisions.
Anyone is welcome to attend Convocation and welcome our new first-year class to Loras! The ceremony will be held in the Athletic and Wellness Center at 4:30 pm.
