Alumni Immersed with Loras Students

6/11/2013

Providing our students with relevant work-related experiences that will shape them into active learners, reflective thinkers, ethical decision-makers and responsible contributors is what makes the Loras experience the unique and valued experience it is.

Exposing students to business professionals and community leaders through speaking engagements, job shadow opportunities and internships is an integral part of our faculty members’ goals. Whether in the classroom or as a separate event, alumni and community leaders and business professionals provide amazing insight to our students each time they choose to take time from their schedules to enhance the Loras experience.

Recently, our students and community members benefitted from several speaking engagements and countless alumni connections that resulted in internships, job shadows and employment opportunities for our students.

Some recent guest speakers who have visited campus include Dick Hartig, CEO, Hartig Drug, who spoke to business classes about his career and Andrew Miller, D.C. (’09), from Malone Family Chiropractic in Dubuque, who spoke to the campus community about chiropractic care and overall wellness. Our Business Week speakers were: Scott Taylor, CEO, Cartegraph; Joan (Kedley) Motsinger (’83), C.T.O., Seagate Technology, Inc.; and Debra Domeyer (’81), CEO, Oversee.net. All speakers gave the students a snapshot of their career paths and provided astute advice. They also emphasized their own use of business analytics in their individual businesses.

If you are interested in immersing yourself with Loras students, the Lunch with Loras program sponsored by the Loras Network of Dubuque is a wonderful opportunity.
