President Jim Collins (’84)
announced today that Loras College received a $1 million anonymous donation toward the Inspiring Lives and Leadership: The Loras Legacy
campaign goal of $75 million. The generous gift was received equally through a cash donation and estate gift.
The contribution will establish a Loras College scholarship for students demonstrating financial need. The scholarship is renewable up to four years and preference will be given to: foreign students; students who are immigrants; students who are children of first generation immigrants; or students majoring in a second language.
“This generous alumnus was a long-time and very successful educator. He knows the transformative power of education and he’s especially sensitive to the needs of students who often have the greatest challenge in gaining access to higher education. Loras has a long history of enrolling first generation and immigrant families. This gift will ensure our future affords these same opportunities,” said Collins.
Launched on October 10, 2013, the Inspiring Lives and Leadership: The Loras Legacy
campaign is the largest fundraising campaign in the 175-year history of the College. In addition to raising funds to support student aid and faculty/staff professional development, the campaign seeks funds to build upon the launch of its MBA program and business analytics curricular focus. As of February 28, 2014, the campaign has raised more than $52 million through more than 15,300 donors.
