St. Pat’s Day Auction, March 14

The annual St. Patrick’s Day Auction to benefit the service trip fund is scheduled for Friday, March 14, 2014, at the Alumni Campus Center, Marie Graber Ballrooms. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m., with the bidding on live auction items beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Loras College offers eight service trips through Campus Ministry that travel across the country and the world throughout the year, and this year over 100 students applied to take part in these experiences.  With more interest then we have ever had before, it is becoming more and more important to fundraise in order to continue to provide service to these communities and allow students to become involved in these life-changing experiences.
In addition to individual fundraising that goes on throughout the year, Campus Ministry’s service trips have benefitted from the St. Patrick’s Day Auction, a Loras College tradition for over 56 years.  Last year, close to 350 students, staff, alumni, and community members gathered for the St. Pat’s Auction.  This year’s festivities include music, live and silent auctions, and a 50/50 raffle.  Hundreds of items will be up for bid and all proceeds go toward the Service Trip Fund which helps alleviate the cost of the trips and allows us to give back to our community partners at each location.
The St. Pat’s Auction provides an opportunity to connect with current students, hear directly about their involvement with service trips, and experience the wonderful chaos and joy that comes with the exciting live auction.
For Dan Duffy (’14) (Bartlett, Ill.), the service trip to New Orleans over J-Term break offered him an opportunity to grow in a unique way. “The service brought us closer. It brought us closer to each other, to the people of New Orleans, and to our ultimate concerns.  My Loras experience would be incomplete without this opportunity,” he said.
These types of experiences are what allow Duhawks to have a unique Loras College experience, not available at other institutions.  The St. Pat’s Auction, a tradition in itself, has become an important event for bringing together Duhawks, young and old, for the sake of service and community.
