The Literature major at Loras College is rich in depth and rigor. The classrooms promote active discussion and debate, cultural awareness and the ability to focus an argument on text-based evidence. Students are introduced to the major in Literary Studies, sharpen their analytics skills in Literary Criticism and complete a Capstone project mentored by two of the faculty.
Students also have the opportunity to take part in courses that get them involved in the community in a variety of ways, such as teaching Shakespeare at after-school community centers, working with local artists to develop a philosophy of art as activism or partnering with a historical society in the area of Victorian Studies. Additionally, January-Term courses provide special opportunities for students to enliven their literary interests.
