The Criminal Justice program is guided in its mission by the overall mission of Loras College. Using a wide variety of educational methods, the program and staff seek to provide:
  • An appropriate and relevant introduction to criminal justice as part of a quality liberal arts education 
     
  • Quality, thorough, diverse curriculum for students seeking an undergraduate degree in criminal justice 
     
  • Meaningful coursework and experiences for students studying in areas related to criminal justice such as psychology, social work, sociology, political science and economics
     
  • Faculty service to Loras College, to the City of Dubuque and to professional organizations in criminal justice via active involvement and leadership in committees and in ethically appropriate counseling and consulting services. The criminal justice department desires its students to: 
     
    • Develop awareness of and critical thought toward knowledge, issues, and processes in criminal justice 
       
    • Articulate an increasing criminal justice knowledge base via competent oral and written expression and by engaging in scientific information gathering
       
    • Appropriately apply criminal justice ideas and methods to the realms of self-understanding, interpersonal relationships, moral growth and professional development.
