Division of Social and Cultural Studies

Division Chair: Amy Lorenz, Ph.D., Chair

A degree in one of the major programs housing in the Division of Social and Cultural Studies provides students with the unique opportunity to examine the global or local population within a variety of disciplines: politically, historically, sociologically, economically, or in relation to the international community.

A priority in all Loras programs, social justice is a particular focus of programs in the social and cultural sciences. The small class sizes and close student-faculty interaction will teach you how to critically analyze complex political, social, economic, and moral issues and then clearly communicate your conclusions to others and plan appropriate courses of action. Internships enhance the curriculum and are available at the local, national, and international level of politics, government, and many other industries.

Graduates of these programs continue their studies in graduate work and professional careers. Related careers include everything from positions in government to corporate analysts to independent consultants.

Majors and minors are offered in Politics, Economics, History, Sociology, and International Studies.
