Rev. Msgr. James Barta
Rev. Msgr. James Barta began teaching at Loras College as an Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department in 1961. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1969, and finally Professor in 1974. During this time, he served as both Chairperson of the Psychology Department and as Faculty Chairperson.
He was named Academic Dean in 1977, while continuing to teach in the Psychology Department. In 1987, he was named Acting President, and later that same year, President of Loras College. In 1994, the Archbishop appointed him Regional Vicar for the Archdiocese of Dubuque, and in 1999, he was named Vicar General. He has since retired the position of Vicar General.
