INSPIRING THROUGH LEADERSHIP.
The Breitbach Catholic Thinkers and Leaders Scholarship Program creates a community of Catholic thinkers.
Paul (’60) and Fran Breitbach of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, are strong supporters of Loras College. Paul is the now-retired Executive Vice President of Finance, Administration and Support Operations and Chair of the Foundation of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. He currently is a member of the Loras Board of Regents.
“At Loras, students are educated in a holistic manner. They see how they can contribute to society.”
Paul Breitbach was so impressed by his Loras College experience that he and his wife founded and continue to financially support the Breitbach Catholic Thinkers and Leaders Program, which provides significant scholarship assistance so that 60 students each year have the chance to grow together as a group, develop a deeper understanding of the Catholic intellectual tradition and discover their individual paths to becoming Catholic leaders in the world after graduation.
“The program that Fran and I sponsor brings to the campus a community that has an interest in being Catholic thinkers and leaders. That exposure challenges the rest of the campus to elevate their own potential to influence society.”
Paul remembers his Loras education: "The interaction with professors and the availability of Christ the King Chapel were invaluable to me. We had the opportunity to attend Mass at noon and to sit, pray and meditate – you always felt comfortable doing that. The whole student body created an atmosphere where that was accepted.”
The Breitbachs want to ensure that future generations of Loras students have the opportunities that Paul had – to study in a place where faith is important, find strong connections to Catholicism and learn career skills with a sense of purpose.
