Dr. Rebecca Smith is an assistant professor at Loras College in the Teacher Education Program. She earned her PhD from the University of Georgia. Her work focused on marginalized children, preschool engagement, and professional development schools. Before entering the program, she taught fourth, fifth, and sixth grade in Tennessee and Massachusetts. Currently, her research focuses on undergraduate experiences in the program, professional development schools and their relationships, and Catholic social teaching. She currently teaches EDU 200: Foundations in Education, EDU 230: Children’s Literature, EDU 280: Child Studies, EDU 334 Intermediate Clinical, EDU 335 Curriculum & Instruction in S.S., and EDU 336: Curriculum & Instruction in Science. She was the recipient of the 2023 Iowa and Minnesota Campus Compact Presidents’ Community Engagement Award for her work in the local school district.
