Prior to joining Loras College, Dr. Nytroe served as a faculty member and academic administrator at DeSales University in southeastern Pennsylvania from 2010-2025.  She taught over seventeen different courses in American and World History, including the History of Piracy and American Religious History.  Her historical research focuses on the American religious experience, including the forthcoming book, “We Catholics Don’t Die Like Them”: Living with Death Before the Second Vatican Council, to be published by The Catholic University of America Press.  In addition to teaching and pursuing scholarship, Dr. Nytroe served in multiple roles as an academic leader, including three years as Department Chair of the Humanities and four years as the Division Head of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences, which included the oversight of liberal arts and pre-professional programs.  She successfully co-led the university’s re-accreditation process and self-study from the Fall of 2015 through Summer of 2018, and the review and revision of the general education curriculum from Fall of 2018 through Fall of 2022.  In the 2024-2025 academic year, she held the position of Provost Fellow for Retention & Student Success.
