DUBUQUE, Iowa – From experiences gained from the help of the Center for Experiential Learning office (CEL), Mallory Gardiner (’22) has been appointed to the Human Rights Commission. Mallory started her time here at Loras in 2018 and a member of the Civic Leader Program. Gardiner is a double major in International Studies and Politics.
Starting during the fall 2019 semester, CEL connected Gardiner to the Dubuque Human Rights Department, where she worked as a volunteer and Americorps member. This year, she started an internship at the Dubuque Human Rights Department, where she will earn six credits and received funding. Gardiner credits her participation in the CEL office for being able to connect her with Dubuque and relationships with the people that live here.
In regards to the appointment, Gardiner expressed, “I am grateful and very excited for my appointment to the Human Rights Commission. I am eager to continue in making those genuine connections with individuals and working with them for a better Dubuque.”
Mallory plans to pursue a career in international public services after graduation.
The CEL helps students expand their learning through the use of academic internships, career services, service learning, and study abroad opportunities. Due to the help of the CEL office, students are gaining exciting opportunities within the community and all over the globe.
