DUBUQUE, Iowa – Loras College was listed as one of the top colleges and universities to offer financial planning programs according to the website Financial Planning.
“It is a testament to the developmental and creative skills of Professor Brian Kallback (’02) combined with his industry expertise that has allowed Loras College to have this cutting-edge program recognized by Financial Planning,” James Padilla, Dean of the Loras College Noonan School of Business, said. “To be listed as one of only three small, private colleges in the Midwest to have such program is also evidence of Loras’ ingenuity and assurance to current, high quality business education. We look forward to helping our students be successful in this important field.”
Financial Planning provides analysis and breaking news, opinion and advice, and practical business-building ideas focused on independent financial planners. Its compiles the annual schools listing from a survey of colleges and universities that offer CFP Board-registered degree programs.
“Loras’ mission emphasizes a servant mindset and financial planning is a service-first business, especially for those who strive to uphold a fiduciary responsibility to their clients,” Kallback, assistant professor of finance, said. “The professional connections we maintain with friends and alumni have allowed us to create a real-world curriculum focused on service rather than content and theory alone.”
Loras offers a Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. (CFP® Board) approved minor in financial planning and wealth management for undergraduate students. The minor is unique among Iowa’s private colleges and the tri-state area.
Beyond being open to all students, Loras and its School of Business provide a differentiated program through its liberal arts tradition, catholic social teaching foundation, and a curriculum based on ethical decision-making and reflective thinking. Students completing the financial planning and wealth management program at Loras will meet the education requirement for the CFP Certification Examination administered by the CFP Board.
In addition to coursework in financial concepts such as fiduciary principles and ethics, insurance and risk management, investments, tax, retirement planning, employee benefits and estate planning, students can pursue majors in their fields of expertise. Loras maintains small class sizes, study-abroad programs, internships, service-learning opportunities, over 40 majors and programs, and a student-faculty ratio of 12:1.
“Our small class sizes allow us to build relationships with each student, learning each individual’s values and motivations. As our students prepare for a career in our profession, these relationships help us serve students towards a personalized future career.”
