Media Studies Earns Nine Awards From Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association

Loras students earned nine top honors as part of the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association (MBJA) 2021 Eric Sevareid Awards. The awards honor the best work done by student and professional journalists working for broadcast news operations in small, medium and large markets in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin on radio, television and online.

The MBJA presents awards to the best work done by broadcast news operations and journalists working in small, medium and large markets, as well as college/university students in a six-state region (Minnesota, Wisconsin, the Dakotas, Iowa and Nebraska) in radio, television and online.

Loras students were awarded the following MBJA Eric Sevareid Awards:

First Place – Sportscast: SportsZONE

First Place – Documentary/Special: “La Violencia Generalizada” – Laura Cifuentes-Almanza (’20)

Award of Merit – Documentary/Special: “Mrs. Quinn”– Jon Quinn (’21)

Award of Merit – Documentary/Special: “One Stolen Moment” – Michael Runde (’20), Ben Friedman (’20), Pat Hunt (’20), Ben Burkholder (’20)

Award of Merit – Newscast:  LCTV News

Award of Merit – Public Affairs:  LCTV Decision 2020 (Election show)

Award of Merit – Soft Feature:  “Heather’s Heart” – Amber Krieg (’20)

Award of Merit – Series: “Game Time” – Nate Kaiser (’22)

Award of Merit – Series: “Tech Beat” – Chase Guerdet (’21)

The Eric Sevareid Awards are named for the North Dakota-born and University of Minnesota-educated journalist best known for his work as a correspondent for CBS Radio and Television. Each year, the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association presents awards to the best work done by broadcast news operations and journalists working in small, medium and large markets in our six-state region on radio, television and online.  Our distinguished panel of judges is made up of journalists and educators who live outside of Minnesota, Wisconsin, the Dakotas, Iowa and Nebraska to help ensure impartiality.
